Canticle 26, Genesis 28:10-17, John 1:47-51
Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Due to unexpected issues with our WiFi signal in the sanctuary this week, we only have video for the first hour of the service. The second part of the service is audio only and can be viewed on YouTube with the following link: Part 2 (Audio)
This Sunday, we’re celebrating the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, which invites us to open our eyes to the unseen supernatural, and open our hearts in wonder to God’s Presence, as we explore the depths of meaning in the words of our First Reading: “Truly the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it ... How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; it is the gateway to heaven”; and the words of our Gospel: “You will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
We're marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (which is on Sep. 30.) with special prayers. Everyone is invited to wear an orange shirt to raise awareness of the tragic legacy of residential schools, and to honour the thousands of Survivors.
As it’s the first Sunday Service since the national and international Services celebrating the life of the Late Queen Elizabeth, we’re sharing 2 prayers from the Committal Service at Westminster Abbey for Her Late Majesty.
It’s also a Triple C Service. On the fourth Sundays of the month we have these Christ-centred Creative Celebrations. There are different parts to the Liturgy, and different translations for our passages from Holy Scripture. We also always have a special Children’s Time, tomorrow a new version of the traditional spiritual “Jacob’s Ladder.”
As it's a Holy Eucharist, we’re most blessed to share Holy Communion together, physically or spiritually, feeding by faith with thanksgiving on the One who laid down his life for us, so that we may have his life within us always.
When our Liturgy ends, the service begins, with a “Sending” forth into the world to share, in word and in deed, the love of God with joy, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in word and in deed.
Today’s Service of Holy Eucharist will be livestreamed on our main Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary) at 9:30 am. Following the service, the video will be posted on our YouTube Channel, and a link to the service will be added here. To watch this service in full screen mode, please click on the “Watch on YouTube” button in the lower left-hand corner of the video.   Please download the Order of Service in the Sermon Notes above if you would like to follow along. If you are sharing this Service online and don’t have Reserved Sacrament, you are invited to say the Prayer for Communion for those receiving Spiritual Communion also available above.
