Third Sunday of Lent

It’s the Third Sunday in Lent, the Season in the Church Year of lengthening our roots in God’s love and the roots of God’s love in us. This week, our focus in our First and Second Readings from Holy Scripture, Psalm, Sermon, and Hymns, is how the Lord is the water of life, poured out in love for each of us. We’re blessed to have Betty with us to assist with the Liturgy. Our Virtual Choir is leading us in our 6 congregational Hymns. Fergus is sharing with our children the story behind the 1969 song “For Those Tears I Died,” and playing it on guitar for us to all learn to sing it. Angela is on video, sharing the First Reading, and Dinah, in-person, is sharing the Second. Murray is present to lead us in the Prayers of the People including 2 Prayers for Ukraine penned by the Rt. Rev’d Susan Bell, Bishop of Niagara. During the Offertory, we’re continuing to express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine as we listen to a song played on violin by Ukrainian Illia Bondarenko in a basement shelter in Kyiv, joined by 67 violinists from 25 different countries and 11 other violinists from Ukraine. After this, we have the priceless opportunity to receive within us the life of the One who laid down his life out of love for us, feeding on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving, as we share Communion physically or spiritually together. Last, our Liturgy ends, and the service begins, with a “Sending” forth to help spread the love of the Lord throughout our broken, war-torn world, in word and in deed.
