Luke 2:1-14
Christmas Eve Family Service

On Christmas Eve, we have 3 Services you can attend in-person, the first 2 of which you can attend onlineOur first Service, at 5:00, is especially for families with young children. Our second and third Services, at 7:30 and 10:30, are especially for older children, youth, and adults.

Our Family Service has the beloved congregational Christmas Hymns: “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Joy to the World,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” and “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks,” all led by our Virtual Choir; “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” led by the Choir of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Ontario; and, of course, “Silent Night” by candlelight, again led by our Virtual Choir (using electric candles at 5 p.m. for safety reasons). Our Virtual Choir is singing an anthem. We're lighting the Christ candle on the Advent Wreath, and sharing special Christmas Prayers of the People and a Prayer in Response to COVID-19 penned by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Finally, we're sharing Holy Communion together, both spiritually and physically.

Our Family Service also has 2 videos, the fun "Christmas According to Kids" and "The Saviour is Born," an animated version of Luke 2:4-14. It also has the children’s favourite, “Away in a Manger," and the blessing of the crib of the Nativity Scene. And instead of a Sermon at this Service, Fergus is sharing a brief Reflection especially geared towards the children.

The 5:00 pm Service of Holy Eucharist will be livestreamed on our main Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary) at 5:00 pm. Following the service, the video will be posted on our YouTube Channel, and a link to the service will be added here. To watch this service in full screen mode, please click on the “Watch on YouTube” button in the lower left-hand corner of the video.   Please download the Order of Service in the Sermon Notes above if you would like to follow along. If you are sharing this Service online and don’t have Reserved Sacrament, you are invited to say the Prayer for Communion for those receiving Spiritual Communion also available above.
