Psalm 1, James 3:13-4:3, Mark 9:30-37
17th Sunday after Pentecost

Today, our focus is the call to walk the path of service and gentleness – especially fitting the weekend before our Federal election! We’re blessed to have Betty assisting, our Virtual Choir leading us in 7 Hymns, Stacy in-person giving the First Reading, and Dinah in-person leading the Prayers of the People. These Prayers include Litany 1 from the BAS; the third in a series of prayers we’re sharing for God’s rule to come and will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, this week a Prayer for Social Justice from the BCP of the Episcopal Church; a Prayer in Response to COVID-19 adapted from Primate; and a Prayer for an Election from the BAS. We’re receiving in our hearts with thanksgiving the One who came as One who serves, laying down his life for us, through sharing Communion together, physically or spiritually. When our Liturgy ends, the service begins. We depart, filled with the Holy Spirit, to seek not what we can get, but what we can give, as we go forth to serve the world.

Today’s Service of Holy Eucharist will be livestreamed on our main Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary) at 9:30 am.
