Canticle 19, Acts 3:12-19, Luke 24:13-35
Third Sunday of Easter

Today is the Third Sunday of Easter, in which we focus on the encounter of two discouraged, overwhelmed disciples with the Risen Lord on the Road to Emmaus. Our Virtual Choir is leading us in our Opening and Gradual Hymns, celebrating Our Lord’s giving us a new song, and his Presence with us as we share Eucharist together! Our Offertory Anthem is a beautiful rendition of the L’Arche Hymn, “Lord Jesus, You Shall be My Song as I Journey,” and our Closing Hymn is about our Lord of life’s journeying ever with us, which I’m leading on guitar, to the tune “Edelweiss”! As is our custom, we have 3 pieces of Holy Scripture to set our hearts ablaze! In addition to our Gospel, the words of Holy Scripture, we have a Canticle (as we do throughout the Easter Season) and a Reading from the Book of Acts, read by Debra on video. Doreen is on tape leading us in the Prayers of the People, with an Easter Litany from the BAS; Prayers in Memory of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, and for the Royal Family and All Who are Grieving, from the Canadian National Church; and a Prayer in Response to COVID-19, adapted from the Church of England. Our Service then continues with Communion, in which Jesus makes himself known to us in ever-deepening ways in the breaking of the bread. There’s the opportunity to partake not just spiritually, but also physically, using Reserved Sacrament from the previous Sunday’s Service. This Reserved Sacrament is available for pick up just inside the main doors on Saturdays from 2 to 2:45, and other times by appointment. The wafers are in individual paper cups, and placed in a sealed baggie, to ensure their safety. After Communion, as our Liturgy ends, the service begins: we go in peace to love and serve the Lord, living out our Easter “Alleluia” by sharing the joyous Good News of Easter in all we say and do.

Today’s Service of Holy Eucharist will be livestreamed on our main Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary) at 9:30 am.
