John 14:15-21
Sixth Sunday of Easter

In keeping with National Nursing Week, the Prayers of the People in today's Service have a special focus on nurses, including a prayer of blessing over nurses’ hands. With this theme of service, it’s most appropriate that we have the joy of Deacon Bob’s being with us to assist in the Service, including preaching the Homily (which focuses on agapē love). The Gospel includes words about the Advocate, the Comforter, who is with us for ever, whose loving Presence we embody as we serve in love. We are blessed with our Choir leading us in our Hymns, and listening to Steve Bell sing the song “Kindness,” the lyrics of which are based on St. Teresa of Avila’s words about our being the hands and feet of Our Lord in the world. We receive in our hearts with thanksgiving Our Lord’s life, which he laid down in love for us, as we share Spiritual Communion together; and then go forth in his strength to live out this most high calling.
