Acts 10:44-48, John 15:9-17
Sixth Sunday of Easter
What a special Service we have today! On tape, Keith and Megan present the classic P. D. Eastman story “Are You My Mother?”. In our Reflection time, we have a video from the SkityGuys entitled “An Almost Post-Pandemic Mother’s Day,” and 6 reflections read on tape by Rhonda, Debra, Gloria, Robbie, Dinah, and Doreen!
We have our Virtual Choir leading us in Hymns about love; and the Hymn “Now Thank We All Our God” (which speaks about God’s blessings being lavished upon us “from our mother’s arms”) played on the organ at All Saints’ Church in Oystermouth, Swansea, Wales.
We have John L. on tape giving our First Reading, which is about love “enlarging the tent,” as the church starts to realize that God’s embrace is wider than it had imagined. And our Gospel contains some of the greatest words about love ever spoken: Our Lord’s new commandment to love one another as he loves us. I’ll conclude our Mother’s Day Reflections with a brief exploration of these passages.
Brian is on tape leading us in the Prayers of the People, which include a special Mother’s Day Litany, Prayers for Families Under Stress, and a Prayer in Response to COVID-19 penned by Bishop Rosemarie Wenner, Geneva Secretary of the World Methodist Council.
Today’s Service of Holy Eucharist will be livestreamed on our main Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscalgary) at 9:30 am.
